Eco Designed Innovative Textile – EDIT Line

Circular Economy

In 2022, for the second consecutive year, we launched EDIT on the market, the beachwear capsule collection designed with textile circularity in mind. The EDIT line, based on the Eco-Designed Innovative Textile concept, continues our path towards an idea of sustainability with a focus on recycling, innovation and reduction of waste.

The collection has been created following the principles of eco-design and is 100% composed of a mono-polymer (polyester) fabric, characterised by high mechanical deformation properties to avoid the use of elastomers, of which 51% comes from certified GRS (Global Recycled Standard) recycled sources. With a view to eco-design, the number of components for the creation of the swimwear is reduced and any type of accessory is also eliminated. For the fashion sector, the second most polluting industry in the world, this is a great innovation in terms of sustainability. The innovation consists in reducing the use of virgin raw material in favour of recycled material and in facilitating the recycling of the swimwear, once it has reached the end of its useful life, thanks to the use of a single material, thus ensuring the circularity of the product. In 2021, following the guidelines provided by the study on circularity with Ergo S.r.l., we re-proposed the EDIT collection, which, therefore, offers the same performance designs as the previous year, but using the yarn produced by the Radici Group. We commit ourselves responsibly, taking into account the entire supply chain: from design to production, up to the distribution of the products. In addition, we also lay the foundations to provide for the end of life of the products, facilitating their recycling thanks to the use of a mono-polymer yarn. The innovation of the EDIT line lies not only in the choice of mono-polymer and the absence of accessories, but also in the use of an innovative Windye® technique for the application of the double print. The swimwear, in fact, can be worn on both sides, in two different patterns which, however, were printed simultaneously using a sublimation technique and without the use of water.

The EDIT line was launched on June 8, 2022 in conjunction with World Oceans Day. For the occasion, and as a partner of the One Ocean Foundation, we took part in the first edition of Ocean Week Milan organised by the same Foundation. The project included a series of activities distributed throughout the Milan area and aimed at raising people’s awareness of the importance of our oceans and the resources they offer to improve the quality of our lives. We contributed to the project setting up an installation in our Milan Cordusio store with pieces from the recent exhibition on the brand’s swimwear held at the ADI Design Museum in Milan in May 2022.

We can therefore count on several partners in the Yamamay EDIT project including: the Radici Group for the production of the yarn, Carvico S.p.A. for the production of the fabric, Menphis S.p.A. for the printing and Ergo S.r.l., Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna spin-off, for the technical and regulatory consulting for the management of the circular model and for the creation of the green claim. Without question, the line is the result of the shared skills and expertise of all the actors involved, thanks to the adoption of our Open Innovation approach.
